Vaccination of healthy, pregnant cows and heifers is recommended. Shake well.
Administer the 2mL dose aseptically by i/m or s/c injection. This product should be administered into the anterior (front half) of the neck.
PRIMARY VACCINATION. Administer 2 doses by i/m or s/c injection at least 3 weeks apart, to pregnant cows or heifers with the 2nd dose given 2-12 weeks before the planned start of calving.
REVACCINATION. Revaccination with a single dose 2-12 weeks before each subsequent calving period is recommended. ScourGuard 4(K) can also be given as an annual booster vaccination to animals vaccinated with Rotavec Corona (A8132) in the previous year.
The protection of the calf depends, firstly, on an adequate antibody response by the dam. This must then be followed by effective colostral transfer to the calf. Consequently, to achieve a maximal level of protection, calves must receive adequate quantities of colostrum from their dams. This can be achieved by feeding calves twice daily with the best quality first-milking, hyper-immune colostrum that is available. The goal is to feed 2L of this colostrum within 6 hours and a total of 4L (or approximately 10% of b.w) within 12 hours of birth. Pool colostrum collected from the first 6–8 milkings from vaccinated cows and feed for at least the first 2 weeks of life to at risk calves at a rate of 2.5–4L/day, based on their body size. Adopt a whole herd cow vaccination policy to ensure optimum results. This will maximise the chances that the level of calf infection and consequent virus shedding is minimised and therefore the overall level of disease challenge within the herd will be kept to a minimum.
