Orbenin L.A.

Orbenin L.A. is a lactating cow intramammary antibiotic infusion with prolonged action. Orbenin L.A. is bactericidal and is indicated for use against important bacteria commonly associated with bovine Mastitis, including penicillin resistant organisms. The duration of treatment makes Orbenin L.A. particularly useful when Staphylococci are known or suspected to be involved.

  • Orbenin L.A. is for the treatment of bovine mastitis (caused by Gram+ve bacteria) in the lactating cow. Particularly indicated for the treatment of staphylococcal infections, when the sustained bactericidal action against both penicillin-resistant and sensitive strains will meet with the strict requirements for successful therapy.

Orbenin L.A. is active against Gram+ve organisms associated with mastitis. It is highly effective against Streptococcus agalactiae and other streptococcal species, penicillin-resistant and sensitive Staphylococci and Corynebacterium pyogenes. Unlike natural penicillins, cloxacillin is not destroyed by ß-lactamase. It is therefore active against penicillin-resistant Staphylococci, which are an important cause of mastitis.

  • Orbenin L.A. is a stable suspension containing 200mg cloxacillin (a semi-synthetic penicillin), as the sodium salt, in a long-acting base.

Orbenin L.A. is presented as cartons of 24 x 3g syringes suitable for intramammary infusion.

  • Orbenin L.A. comes with a nozzle adaptor to give you the choice of short or conventional nozzle length. Use of a short nozzle avoids full penetration of the teat canal; where practical this option is recommended.

    • Apply one syringe every 48 hours for 3 treatments per infected quarter. An alternative regime is to apply one syringe every 24 hours for 5 treatments per infected quarter. For further guidance, please contact your veterinarian.
    • After milking, clean and disinfect the teat, paying particular attention to the teat end.
    • Remove the cap and ensure the sterile exposed nozzle does not touch anything.
    • Insert the nozzle carefully into the teat canal and gently express the antibiotic into the quarter.
    • Dip or spray each teat with a licensed teat dip or spray.
    • The treated quarter(s) may be milked out at the next normal milking and the milk discarded.
  • Drying off: Orbenin LA may be used at drying off where the dry period is expected to be less than 30 days. For longer dry periods use ORBENIN* DRY COW (ACVM No A0888) or ORBENIN* ENDURO (ACVM No A6036).
