  • For the control of the oestrus cycle in maiden heifers and parous cows to enable synchronisation for concentrated artificial insemination (AI) or embryo collection and transfer programmes. Treatment of post-partum and suckling anovulatory anoestrum (non-cycling) cows.

  • Recent trial work1 shows early treatment with CIDR brings forward the conception date of the CIDR group by 10-16 days. This means 10-16 more days in milk per CIDR cow.

Progesterone suppresses oestrus and ovulation in cycling animals and primes the hypothalamo-pituitary axis in non-cycling (anoestrus) animals. Removal of the insert and the subsequent fall in progesterone level allows a surge in LH pulse frequency, follicle maturation and a predictable oestrus and ovulation to occur.

  • Each pack contains 10 inserts. Each insert contains 1.38g progesterone in an inert silicone elastomer. Store at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children.

  • PROGRAMMES FOR THE TREATMENT OF ANOVULATORY ANOESTRUM AND SYNCHRONISATION OF OESTRUS IN CATTLE

    FIXED TIME AI OPTION

    Day -10

Administer CIDR Cattle Insert and inject Gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH)(e.g. 8 μg buserelin or 100 μg gonadorelin)

    Day -3

Remove CIDR Cattle Insert and inject LUTALYSE® (A3231) prostaglandin (with maiden heifers only a half dose is required).

    Day -1

Inject with GnRH (e.g. 8 μg buserelin or 100 μg gonadorelin)

    Day 0

Fixed time AI 16-20 hours after GnRH injection.

    HEAT DETECTION OPTION

    Day -9

Administer CIDR Cattle Insert and inject Gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH)(e.g. 8 μg buserelin or 100 μg gonadorelin)

    Day -2

Remove CIDR Cattle Insert and inject LUTALYSE (A3231) prostaglandin (with maiden heifers only a half dose is required).

    Day 0

    Mate to observed heat

    Day +1

Inject unmated cows with GnRH (e.g. 8 μg buserelin or 100 μg gonadorelin) and perform fixed time AI at same time.

For administration directions refer to label.

  • Wear rubber gloves when handling the inserts. Not suitable for use in cattle with abnormal vaginas. Animals in poor condition resulting from illness or nutritional stress may not respond.

No withholding period is required for either milk or meat, but inserts should always be removed before slaughter.
