Felocell 3

Felocell 3 is a modified live virus vaccine for vaccination of healthy cats as an aid in preventing feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR) caused by feline herpes virus-1, feline respiratory disease caused by feline calicivirus (FCV), and feline panleukopenia (FPL) caused by feline parvovirus

  • Felocell 3 is approved to stimulate systemic immunity (both humoral and cell mediated) to the antigens contained in the vaccine.

Felocell 3 is only available for use under the authority or prescription of a veterinarian.

  • Felocell 3 is a modified live vaccine (MLV) grown on feline cell lines. It is well tolerated and highly efficacious, and as such provides:

    • Rapid protection
    • Up to 3 years duration of immunity
    • A broader range of protection – IgA, IgG and Cell Mediated Immunity
    • Overcomes interference from maternal antibodies

Felocell 3 stimulates an immune response, even in the presence of maternal antibodies because of both higher initial vaccine titre and more efficient viral replication.

The safety of Felocell 3 was demonstrated in field trials involving cats ranging in age from 5 weeks to 17 years. No serious postvaccination reactions attributable to the vaccine were reported.

Felocell 3 has been shown to provide at least 3 years duration of immunity against feline panleukopenia virus, feline calicivirus and feline herpesvirus1and allows veterinarians the flexibility to choose revaccination intervals that best suit the individual animal’s needs and circumstances.

  • Felocell 3 contains attenuated strains of feline rhinotracheitis virus, calicivirus and panleukopenia virus (Johnson Snow Leopard strain), propagated on established cell lines. Felocell 3 is packaged in freeze-dried form with inert gas in place of vacuum.

Felocell 3 is packed in lyophilised form in packs of 25 x 1 mL dose vials of vaccine with diluent.

  • Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine with the sterile diluent provided, shake well and administer 1 mL subcutaneously or intramuscularly.

Primary Vaccination: Healthy cats should receive 2 doses administered subcutaneously 3 to 4 weeks apart. Cats vaccinated at less than 12 weeks of age should receive a final dose at 12 weeks of age or older.

First Annual Vaccination: Healthy cats should receive a single dose administered 12 months after the completion of the primary vaccination course.

Revaccination: Revaccination with a single dose at intervals of up to 3 years is recommended for feline panleukopenia caused by feline parvovirus, feline viral rhinotracheitis caused by feline herpesvirus-1, and feline respiratory disease caused by feline calicivirus.

    1. Store at 2-8ºC (Refrigerate). Prolonged exposure to higher temperatures may adversely affect potency. Do not freeze.
    2. Use entire contents when first opened.
    3. Sterilised syringes and needles should be used to administer this vaccine. Do not sterilise the chemicals because traces of disinfectant may inactivate the vaccines.
    4. Burn containers and all unused contents.
    5. Contains gentamicin as preservative.
    6. Vaccination of pregnant queens should be avoided.
    7. As with any vaccine, anaphylaxis may occur following use. In this event, an initial antidote of adrenaline is recommended and should be followed by appropriate supportive therapy.
    8. This product has been shown to be efficacious in healthy animals. A protective immune response may not be elicited if animals are incubating an infectious disease, are malnourished or parasitised, are stressed due to shipment or environmental conditions, are otherwise immunocompromised, or the vaccine is not administered in accordance with label directions.
