Equivac T

A purified adjuvanted vaccine containing the formalinised toxin of Clostridium tetani (tetanus toxoid) and an aluminium salt adjuvant to increase the level and duration of immunity.

  • Key Features

    Action: To stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies against tetanus toxin.

  • Packaging

    Presented in single-dose, 1mL disposable syringes in packs of 20.

  • Dosage & Administration
    • The dose for all animals is 1mL followed by a booster 4 weeks later. A third dose given a year later will confer long-lasting immunity.
    • It is advisable, particularly in valuable animals, to repeat the booster dose at intervals of approximately 5 years.
    • The intramuscular route is recommended for the vaccination of horses. The subcutaneous route should be used in dogs, cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.
  • Precautions
    • A single dose of Equivac T given to an unimmunised animal at the time of wounding or surgery may not prevent tetanus. If immediate short-term protection is required, Equivac TAT (tetanus antitoxin) should be given. Preferably, active immunisation with Equivac T should be commenced at the same time.
    • Correct vaccination procedure is important.
    • Side Effects: Localised swelling may develop at the site of injection and a firm nodular lump may persist for several weeks. There may be temporary lameness.
    • Withholding times: Nil.
    • Other information: Store at 2–8°C (refrigerate; do not freeze). Protect from light.
    • Human First Aid, Symptoms of Poisoning: This material may cause a mild allergic reaction in sensitive individuals on skin contact. If skin or hair contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with running water. If splashed in eyes, wash out immediately with water.
