Antisedan
Antisedan is for parenteral use in reversing and abolishing the effects of medetomidine hydrochloride (Domitor®; A6177) and dexmedetomidine hydrochloride (Dexdomitor®; A10396) in dogs and cats.

Antisedan is specifically indicated for the reversal of the sedative and analgesic effects of Domitor (medetomidine hydrochloride) and Dexdomitor (dexmedetomidine hydrochloride). Thus, Antisedan quickly and smoothly restores the normal alert state of the dog or cat following the use of Domitor or Dexdomitor. Sedation disappears, the animal is able to walk and the pulse returns to normal.
Atipamezole is a potent and selective blocker of both the pre- and post-synaptic alpha-2-adrenoreceptors and displaces medetomidine or dexmedetomidine from its receptors. Noradrenaline secretion and consequently the orderly transmission of nerve impulses are restored leading to the reversal of the sedative, analgesic and other pharmacological effects of medetomidine and dexmedetomidine.

Antisedan is a clear, colourless solution for injection, containing 5mg atipamezole/mL. Antisedan is available in 10 mL vials.

For intramuscular injection.
Dogs: The optimal dose in dogs in µg/kg is 5 times that of the previous Domitor dose. As a general rule, in dogs, a volume of Antisedan equal to that of the previously administered volume of Domitor should be given.
Cats: The optimal dose in cats in µg/kg is 2.5 times that of the previous Domitor dose. In general, the volume of Antisedan given to a cat should equal half of the previously administered volume of Domitor.
Antisedan is rapidly absorbed and is generally administered 15–60 minutes after the Domitor. The animal regains its normal state within 5–10 minutes.

Store below 30°C (room temperature) and protect from light.

Antisedan has only been administered to a limited number of pregnant dogs and so cannot be recommended in pregnancy.
Slight transient agitation and tachycardia may be observed in cases of over-dosage. In dogs, a transient hypotensive effect has been observed during the first 10 minutes post injection. Vomiting and panting after Antisedan have been reported, but these effects appear to be rare.
Due to the potent pharmacological activity of atipamezole, skin contact with Antisedan should be avoided. Wipe off spillage on the skin of animals.
